SAFARI BASICS

Prepare for the wild heart of Tanzania.

A safari is shaped by landscapes, seasons, patience and the unpredictability of wildlife. Good preparation helps you enjoy the experience without expecting nature to follow a fixed script.

When to Go

Tanzania offers safari experiences throughout the year. June to October is generally drier and popular for wildlife viewing. November to May brings greener landscapes, seasonal rains and different wildlife conditions. The best period depends on your destinations and priorities.

Northern Safari Circuit

Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro and Serengeti can be combined into journeys of different lengths. Arusha is a common gateway for the northern circuit.

Wildlife Expectations

Wildlife is wild. Sightings, locations, predator activity and migration movements vary naturally and cannot be guaranteed.

Game Drives

Private 4×4 vehicles with pop-up roofs provide flexibility for observation and photography. Daily timing depends on the itinerary, park rules, conditions and travel distances.

What to Pack

Choose comfortable neutral-colored clothing, sun protection, a hat, closed shoes, a light warm layer, personal medication, camera equipment and practical travel essentials. Pack light where domestic flights have baggage limits.

Photography

Bring spare batteries and memory cards and protect equipment from dust. Ask before photographing people and follow your guide's instructions around wildlife.

Safari Etiquette

Keep voices controlled around wildlife, do not feed animals, follow park rules, respect other vehicles and never pressure a guide to drive illegally or disturb animals.

Safari + Zanzibar

Combining safari with Zanzibar creates a natural contrast between wildlife-focused days and a slower Indian Ocean ending.

Important

Seasonal wildlife movements—including the Great Migration—follow natural patterns. Dates and specific sightings should never be marketed as guaranteed.
