Mount Kilimanjaro — The Scenic Route
Machame Gate • Machame Camp • Shira • Barranco • Karanga • Barafu • Uhuru Peak • Mweka Gate
Machame is one of Kilimanjaro's most scenic routes, moving through rainforest, heath, moorland, alpine desert and the high-altitude summit zone. The seven-day format provides a more gradual acclimatization profile than shorter versions of the route.

Pacing, acclimatization and mountain conditions remain central throughout the route.
Meet the mountain team, complete park formalities and begin through the lower rainforest zone toward Machame Camp.
Climb out of the forest into heath and moorland, with changing views across the Shira Plateau.
Gain altitude toward Lava Tower before descending to Barranco. This climb-high, sleep-lower pattern supports acclimatization.
Continue through the Barranco section and traverse toward Karanga, keeping the day measured to support recovery and acclimatization.
Move into the alpine zone and reach Barafu, the high camp used to prepare for the overnight summit attempt.
Begin the summit attempt during the night, aiming for Uhuru Peak before descending carefully to the Mweka area.
Reaching the summit depends on weather, altitude response, health, pace and mountain conditions. Summit success cannot be guaranteed.
Complete the final descent through the forest, exit the park and transfer onward to Arusha or Moshi.
The goal is steady progress with attention to how your body responds.
A measured pace helps the body adjust to increasing altitude.
Regular hydration is an important part of the climbing routine.
The route includes altitude gain followed by descent on key acclimatization days.
Your mountain guide monitors pace, symptoms and the day's conditions.
Our mountain team supports climbers throughout the journey, with careful attention to pacing, acclimatization, safety and the overall trekking experience.
Machame uses mountain camps with tents carried and set by the support team.

No responsible operator can guarantee a summit. Preparation, acclimatization, weather, health and mountain conditions all matter.
It can be suitable for fit and well-prepared first-time climbers. The seven-day version gives useful acclimatization time, but Kilimanjaro remains a demanding high-altitude trek.
